401KID

What are you teaching your kids about money?

It’s never too early or late to start teaching your kids about money. Here’s why:

If you don't teach them, someone else will and that "someone else" is often social media, advertisers and consumer culture that fuel a toxic cycle of comparison. This can lead to a self-esteem crisis where children believe happiness comes from possessions.

In 401Kid, Walter Clarke draws from over 30 years of experience in finance to offer a groundbreaking approach to financial literacy. His method transforms money lessons into meaningful parent-child connections, providing tools for age-appropriate conversations.

The book teaches essential principles including:

  • Creating value and impact that leads to earning income
  • The power of delayed gratification in building wealth
  • Why investing early builds financial freedom and generational wealth
  • How to apply The Five Faces of the Dollar framework

This isn't just about budgets—it's about shaping a child's understanding of value, responsibility and self-worth. When you teach your child about money, you don't just change their future—you change yours.

Reading the book is just the beginning—

401 Kid by Walter Clarke is a breath of fresh air in the intimidating world of financial education for kids.

Clarke has a clear, engaging way of breaking down financial concepts. He’s writing for parents, guardians, and educators, but always with the child’s future in mind. What I really appreciated was how he frames money as a tool—something to be understood and mastered.

The book covers everything from budgeting and saving to the basics of investing and understanding credit, all while emphasizing values like discipline, responsibility, and long-term thinking. It’s full of real-world advice that kids can start using right away (with some guidance). The inclusion of actionable exercises and scenarios makes it easy to take the ideas off the page and into everyday life.

One standout aspect for me was how the author emphasizes communication—encouraging adults to talk about money openly with their children, which is still not done in many families. He pushes for a culture shift.

401 Kid is more than a financial guide—it’s a roadmap for raising confident, informed, and financially savvy kids. It is a practical, easy-to-understand guide that helps parents teach their children smart money habits early. Walter Clarke breaks down complex financial concepts into relatable lessons, with actionable tips and real-life examples. It’s empowering, engaging, and full of tools to set kids up for long-term success.

I wish I’d had a book like this when I was growing up, and I’ll definitely be recommending it to other family and friends! It’s a must have book for all parents! I highly recommend.it. This will be my gift at baby showers!

As a young mother, I find this topic particularly significant, especially in how I can pass on my financial values to the next generation, given my entrepreneurial background. From a young age, I understood the importance of hard work and education, and I believe that instilling financial literacy is crucial for both my personal growth and my child's development. I'm truly thankful that Walter emphasizes this subject, helping to educate our kids early on.

I don’t have kids myself, but I picked up 401Kid because I’m always looking to improve my own financial literacy and was curious about the mindset side of money. I was honestly surprised by how much value this book offers—not just for parents, but for anyone who wants to better understand how we learn about money in the first place.

Walter Clarke takes a refreshingly human approach to finance. He goes beyond just the basics and dives into how beliefs around money are formed early on—and how those beliefs impact us for life. The book breaks down concepts like value creation, delayed gratification, and long-term investing in a way that’s super approachable and easy to reflect on, no matter your age.
The “Five Faces of the Dollar” framework was a standout—it gave me a new way to think about what money represents and how we use it. Honestly, this would’ve been amazing to learn as a kid, but it still hit home as an adult.

Whether you’re a parent or just someone who wants to better understand your own relationship with money, this is a thoughtful, practical read that sticks with you.

This book is a great help on how to teach your kids about money. My parents never taught me how to handle money and I struggled for years trying to mange my finances

This book provides a great way to start the conversation with kids about money and finances. It provides practical steps you and your child can take to foster a healthy and responsible mindset about money and the responsibility that comes with it. I realize that factoring in giving is especially important for a child to mature into a good person and a good neighbor. It's great to see that discussed.

From the parent's standpoint, I appreciate the book addressing parental hesitations in talking with their children about finances. You don't have to be a financial guru to pass along sound financial tools to your children. In fact, it's your obligation. And I found this book very helpful in getting that process started.
